Fifty-three-year-old Michael Burwell is the new chief financial officer of Willis Towers Watson in Michigan State, USA. He took over from Roger Millay who retired voluntarily in October 2017. Michael Burwell brings to Willis Towers Watson thirty-one years’ experience gained at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC).
A certified public accountant and a graduate of Michigan State University, Burwell has served in senior positions during his thirty-one years stay at PwC. He is an expert in finance, organizational transformation, and transactions services.
He started out as an auditor at PwC, a position Michael held for eleven years until 1997. He then served for twelve years as the transaction services advisor at PwC. In 2001, Michael Burwell took over as the leader of transaction services in Midwest.
This was before his appointment as the US transactions services team leader. During this time, he was instrumental in pre-merger and valuation analysis of PwC client organizations in the US.
Michael Burwell has also acted as the head of PwC team of global value in automotive practices. He speaks and frequently writes on topics related to automotive industry.
In 2007, PwC appointed Michael Burwell l as the chief finance officer and again as their chief operations officer in 2008. He served in these two capacities until 2012, when he became the company’s vice chairperson in charge of the organization’s transformation both in the US and globally.
This role required him to work in collaboration with those in charge of business strategy, alignment and operations. He then moved to be a PwC partner in Detroit in 2016.
