Patty’s contribution to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)

Patty’s husband, Dr. Rocklage, is a chemist with a Ph.D. from the MIT. Dr. Rocklage did his Ph.D. research work at the laboratory of the Nobel’s recipient Prof. Richard Schrock. In 2016, the couple was celebrated at the Institute for their donation, which was used to construct two buildings of the university. This couple contributed to the facelift of the nanotechnology and nanochemistry laboratories. During the commissioning of the laboratory, Prof. Bawendi showed Patty and her husband the new lab and the plaque where their names were displayed. Heads of the department of chemistry like Timothy Jamison, Sylvia Ceyer, and Prof. Bawendi congratulated the couple for their contribution.

Patty oversees the renovation of her home

Patty was instrumental in the renovation of their home. Upon realizing that some sections of their house needed to be reconstructed, Patty and Dr. Rocklage visited Sudbury Kitchen & Bath showroom. Sudbury is a group of companies that conduct projects on exterior and interior house renovation projects. Ed Freedlender manages the firm. When contracted, this company immediately compiled 3D images and drawings to Patty and her husband. The couple consented to have the entire house reconstructed.

Before the actual construction began, Freedlender and his team sought permission from the Conservation Commission. This commission gave out their consent with the condition that all material obtained from the Rocklage’s home be recycled. Stone remnants were used to make driveway while trees were processed to wood used to decorate the interior part of the house. Patty and her husband were amazed at the transformation that had occurred in their home. Freedlender, their contractor, ensured that they built the Rocklages a farmer’s porch and an elegant kitchen.
