Adam Milstein, an Israeli-American real estate investor who serves as a managing partner of Hager Pacific Properties, recently wrote a featured piece for the Jewish News Syndicate website, JNS.org. Milstein’s article discusses how radical Islam has formed alliances with the far left in both North America and Europe to promote anti-Semitic ideas. For Muslim radicals, Milstein argues, the purpose of spreading anti-Semitism is to delegitimize the state of Israel as a nation and as the historic homeland of the Jewish people.
On paper, alliances between leftists and radical Muslims seem highly unlikely. Radical Islam has extremely conservative attitudes towards feminism, human rights and gay and transgender rights, all factors that should, in theory, lead to conflict with the far left. However, Milstein believes that because Western leftists have a tendency to view all Muslims, whether mainstream or radical, as one block, they treat all Muslims as people oppressed by the West. This leads many leftists to be sympathetic to the cause of radical Islam, and causes them to view Israel as a colonialist state that oppresses Muslims.
The far left’s vilification of Israel, Adam Milstein writes, dates back to the 1970s, when Islamists and the Western left supported the radical Ayatollah Khomeini as he overthrew the more moderate Shah. Today, we see the presence of mainstream, liberal anti-Semitism on college campuses and in the midst of political protests, and Milstein warns that this popularization of anti-Semitic ideas threatens represents a threat to the way of life of American Jews and the future of Jewish people worldwide.
Adam Milstein was born in Israel in 1952, and he lived there for twenty-nine years, spending a few years serving with the Israel Defense Forces in a number of conflicts. In 1974, he married Gila Elgrably, and the couple moved to the United States in 1981. Two years later, Milstein received an MBA from the University of Southern California, which sparked his successful real estate career.
Today, Adam Milstein is a managing partner of Hager Pacific Properties, a real estate firm located in southern California. He and his wife are also involved in a number of philanthropic enterprises, including the Adam and Gila Milstein Family Foundation, which helps young Jewish students connect and identify with their Jewish roots. Adam and Gila live together in Encino, California.
